Safeguarding
Carlton Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. This means that we ensure that everyone working in our school has successfully completed the necessary clearances to enable them to work with children.
Child Protection
All staff at Carlton receive regular Child Protection training. The school works with a variety of agencies to support the needs of children and families. All safeguarding concerns are passed to members of staff who are specifically trained as “Designated Safeguarding Leads” (DSL) within the school. The Safeguarding Team in our school consists of:

Mrs Paine is one of our KS1 teachers and is part of our safeguarding team here at Carlton.
Carlton also has a named governor with responsibilities for Child Protection; Mr Andrew Lupton.
Parents can request a full copy of the school’s Child Protection Policy from the office if required.
Safer Recruitment
Organisations and individuals who work with children and young people have a duty to safeguard and promote their welfare. The Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and School Business Manager have all undertaken ‘Safer Recruitment’ training. This sets out procedures and strategies to help those in the recruitment process to deter, identify and reject applicants who are unsuitable to work with children. All staff at Carlton have a current Enhanced DBS check. School volunteers have standard DBS vetting checks. Employment of any new staff follows ‘Safer Recruitment’ procedures and is extremely rigorous.
Security
To ensure the security of the site, access to school during the day will be via the school office only.
Health and Safety
All staff at Carlton have a responsibility for Health and Safety. The school has a designated governor for this area who meets with the Headteacher, Site Manager and members of staff with responsibilities for Health and Safety. Site inspections are carried out regularly.
Prevent Duty
From 1 July 2015, all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent duty.
