Ruby Class - Year 1/2
Ruby is a Year 2 class and the teacher is Mrs Jeffers.
Welcome to Ruby Class!
I cannot quite believe we are in Spring 2 already, but how lovely it is to finally see some sunshine!
In English, we have enjoyed writing inspired by a haunted house, and we have also rewritten our own stories based on the book Funnybones.
In Maths, we have been learning about length and height.
In Geography, we are focusing on a case study comparing China and the UK. We loved our inspiration lesson where we designed Chinese lanterns, compared natural and man-made features in China and the UK, and even tasted some traditional Chinese food.
In Art, we are creating our own Pop Art, inspired by the artist Roy Lichtenstein.
In Science, we are exploring what causes reactions through hands-on experiments.
In RE, we are learning how different religions think about our wonderful world through stories.
We also loved celebrating World Book Day – the costumes blew me away! Our story focus was Jack and the Beanstalk, and we enjoyed planting seeds, making puppets and creating a golden harp.
We also celebrated the Holi festival by taking part in a whole-school colour run with our buddies.
What an amazing start to March!

What an amazing start to 2026! We began our half term with an inspiring hook to launch our history learning: “I wonder how pop music has changed since our grandparents were young?” Our focus is on the evolution of pop music, and both children and staff embraced the theme by dressing up from different music decades, music genres such as rock and disco, or as famous music artists.
The day was filled with fun, curiosity, and inspiration. The children were completely flabbergasted when we surprised them with a silent disco in the hall, where they listened to music ranging from the 1950s through to the 2000s.
In DT, we have begun learning how to make a stir fry, and we are all super excited for our tasting session later this week. In maths, Year 1 have been working hard on addition and subtraction, doubles, and number bonds, while Year 2 have been exploring money. We have loved creating our own ‘Aldi’ role-play area in Ruby class!
In English, we have been inspired by the story The King Who Banned the Dark. The children have taken part in debates, focused on developing strong sentence structure, and made huge progress in their SPaG lessons.
We cannot wait for the rest of the half term after such an amazing start! Go Ruby Class!
